F3 in the Pt. Reyes Light

Marin Family Action and Families Fighting Foreclosure (F3) got the attention of a Pulitzer-Prize winning newspaper! Pt. Reyes Light reporter Kyle Cashulin spent a couple of weeks interviewing various members of Marin Family Action and the F3 group to learn about the group’s strategic plans to save homes. He took notes during long hours at F3’s Wednesday meetings and joined the group in court to view the Buddy System used.

Each time one of the F3 group appears in court, more than a dozen other families in the midst of foreclosure nightmares joins the person in the courtroom. It works. All are quiet and mannerly, but the point is that the person about to lose one’s home has backup. Generally someone in the group takes notes.

Marin Family Action and Families Fighting Foreclosure under the direction of Manny Fernandez is doing an amazing job of holding the mortgage wolves at Bay. Approximately 36 homes are still in the hands of the families — NOT the lenders or, worse, those that do not hold the note but who “service the loan.”

It is a pleasure to be a part of this ongoing story for all of the Families Fighting Foreclosure. Every single one of us would have lost our homes by now if it weren’t for Manny being bold enough to set up group meetings and help save homes.

He does this with next to no salary, minimal funding (although grant requests are out), long hours, unique organizational skills, and cooperation by each member of F3 — everyone has to do their own leg work and stay on top of their lenders/loan servicers.

It is and amazing and effective project!
